Topographic map

The topographic map 1:50 000 gives a more general picture of the ground features than the basic map. The topographic map is an ideal complement to nautical charts as it provides detailed information about the terrain, since all Finnish sea areas are covered by 1:50 000 topographic map sheets.

What is shown on the map?

The topographic map shows settlements, houses, roads, cultivated areas, waterways, cutting areas, swamps and mires, rock exposures and elevation.

• One map sheet covers an area of 24 x 48 km. One centimetre on the map corresponds to 500 metres in the terrain.
• The maps are made according to the GPS compatible coordinate system ETRS89 (WGS84). 

The sheet line system is selected on the Citizen’s MapSite by choosing the appropriate sheet line system from the Settings.

The topographic maps 1:50 000 are available for the whole of Finland.
