The Aerial Image Centre of the National Land Survey (NLS) and the Agency for Rural Affairs will acquire aerial photographs together from the Finnish company Suomen Kartoitus ja Mittaus SKM Oy and the Norwegian company TerraTec AS.
"The agreement provides us annually with over 40 000 square kilometres of such aerial photographic data, which has previously been used only by the Agency of Rural Affairs", explains Jyrki Lämsä from the Aerial Image Centre of the NLS.
In addition, the NLS will continue to photograph about 40 000–45 000 square kilometres every year using its own aerial photography equipment.
Reduced emissions and expenses
The aerial photography cooperation between the NLS and the Agency of Rural Affairs provides considerable advantages.
"Joint photography flights allow us to save expenses and reduce emissions, as we avoid photographing the same areas during the same or the following year ", explains director Juha Vilhomaa from the Aerial Image Centre of the NLS.
