Finnish Parliament has approved the results from the frontier demarcation between Finland and Russia

The State frontier between Finland and Russia has been remeasured in a joint demarcation. The demarcation took over ten years to complete. The Finnish Parliament has approved the results from the demarcation. The demarcation minutes will be published in the Finnish Treaty Series. The demarcation will take effect 30 days after publication.

The frontier became approx. 20 kilometres longer, because modern measurement techniques are more precise than a few decades ago. Now, the frontier is 1,343.6 kilometres long. The frontier is still in the same place, but now even its smallest bends have been documented.

Finland and Russia have agreed on doing the demarcations every 25 years in the future. Finland already has such an agreement with Sweden and Norway.

You can have a look at the demarcation documents on our website.
