We have made clarifications to the terms of use of the open interface of the National Land Survey. The terms of use contain information about how and for which purposes the open and free-of-charge interface services may be used and what are the responsibilities of the user. By using the open and free-of-charge interfaces, you accept these terms of use.
The most important changes
- The responsibilities associated with the use of interface services have been clarified. The user is responsible for complying with good information security policies and protecting their own API key or other identifying information when using the interface service. Moreover, the user must inform the National Land Survey without delay about possible incidents or endangering identifiers.
- The National Land Survey may, among other things, prevent the access of a user to the service entirely if the use endangers, for example, the information security or availability of the service, or some other misuse is detected.
- The terms of use clarify that the open and free-of-charge interface service is intended for testing and production use in services where performance is not critical.

Which services do the changes apply to?
It is possible to use the following interface services openly and free of charge:
- Map image service (WMTS)
- Map image service (vector tiles)
- Orthophotos and elevation models (WCS)
- Topographic database (OGC API Features)
- Geographical names (OGC API Features)
- Geocoding service (REST)
- Land information query service (OGC API Features)
- Geospatial file services (OGC API Processes)
- INSPIRE view services (WMS)
- INSPIRE download services (WFS)
Make an agreement for production use
When your service needs more capacity in production use, make an agreement about the interface service. For contractual users, we secure the functioning and availability of the service. Moreover, we offer support in the use of the interface services and inform directly of, for example, disruptions and changes in the service. A fee for technical maintenance, which is based on the number of queries, is collected for contractual use. With the fees for technical maintenance, we can secure a sufficient service capacity.

Terms of use of open data
In addition to the terms of use of the interface services, you should take into account what kinds of terms of use are applied to the data. The National Land Survey open data Attribution CC 4.0 licence is applied to the data received via the National Land Survey’s open and free-of-charge interface services. The licence terms enable a free use of the data, as long as the source is stated.
