The National Land Survey of Finland’s MapSite allows you to order NLS’s paid map products as well as manage matters related to your own properties. Now, the option to download open data file materials will also be introduced in the same service. Since last spring, the Open data file download service has been available as a beta version, and the new service will be published for production use in January. The online user interface of the current File service of open data will be shut down in spring 2023.
You can download open and free geospatial data and map materials from this service. You will need software designed for geospatial data materials to use them, such as the free QGis open source code software. Map and aerial photo files in raster format can also be viewed as images.
Changes to Topographic database and property division formats
The users of the current Open data file download service are asked to note that the MIF and MID formats will not be available in the new service. The option to download maps by the sheet from the Topographic database and property division will still be available, although both materials will also become available as material packages covering the whole of Finland and with other filtering options.
These materials will continue to be available as map sheets in SHP and GML formats. GeoJson and GeoPackage formats are available for other filtering methods. In raster format, the materials are available as PNG files.
For now, property division files cannot be downloaded from the BETA version, but they will become available in late 2022
