If an apartment has a new owner – for instance, you have bought or inherited an apartment or a part thereof – you need to apply for registration of your ownership within two months. Check time limits for the registration of the ownership of an apartment.

If you own an apartment in a housing company that has been transferred to the Residential and Commercial Property Information System, you have ten years to register your ownership with the National Land Survey of Finland.

Here’s what to do before you come to visit a service point

  • If the ownership of your apartment is indicated by a paper share certificate, you can apply for registration of ownership in the NLS e-service (in Finnish) before bringing the share certificate to the service point.
  • If you cannot use the e-service or your apartment has an electronic record of ownership, you can apply for registration of ownership using our form (suomi.fi, in Finnish) .
  • You can book an appointment at most of our service points. There are no postboxes at our service points where you could leave a share certificate.
  • In-person appointments are available in Finnish only. You can book appointments for Swedish service at the following service points: Helsinki, Kokkola and Vaasa. Go to reservation.
  • You can visit our service point without an appointment when the service point is open for all customers, including those without an appointment. Customers are served on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Before leaving home, check the location and opening hours of the service point in case of any exceptional opening hours.

The registration of the ownership of an apartment costs EUR 92. If there is a separate share certificate for a parking space, a separate application for the parking space is required, which is subject to the registration fee EUR 92 according to the price list.

Please note that during peak periods, we will only allow as many customers in the queue as we will be able to serve before the customer service closes for the day. If the service point has a queue number device, it may be closed approximately an hour before the service point closes.

Application backlog

There is backlog of owner apartment applications, so we ask you to be patient. We will send you a notification by secure e-mail once your application has been processed. If you have not given us your e-mail address, you will receive a notification about the decision in a letter. If additional information is needed for your application, the person processing your application will contact you.

If you are in a hurry, you can expedite the processing of your application by contacting our customer service. Expedited processing may be justified if a new owner needs to start a renovation or if an undivided estate of a deceased person wishes to sell an apartment, for example.

For the average processing times of applications, see the Application processing times page. Processing times can also exceed the average in some situations.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the backlog.
