If the owner of an apartment has changed – you have bought or inherited an apartment or a part of one, for example – you must apply to register your ownership within two months. Check time limits for the registration of the ownership of an apartment.

Answer the interactive instructions to see the different ways for applying to register the ownership of an apartment.

Here's what to do when you want to register the ownership of your apartment

  • If the ownership of your apartment is indicated by a paper share certificate, apply to register the ownership in NLS e-service (in Finnish) before you bring the share certificate to our service point or send it by post.
  • If you cannot use the e-service or your apartment has an electronic record of ownership, apply for registration of ownership using our form (suomi.fi, in Finnish) .
  • You can book an appointment at most of our service points. Our service points do not have mailboxes for dropping the share certificate in. Anyone can bring the share certificate to the customer service point on behalf of the owner, provided the application to register the ownership has been made in advance in the NLS e-service or the application is submitted together with the paper share certificate.

Service points in major cities can be busy from time to time. During peak periods, we will only allow as many customers in the queue as we will be able to serve before the customer service closes for the day. If the service point has a queue number device, it may be closed before the service point closes.

Before leaving home, check the location and opening hours of the service point in case of any exceptional opening hours.

The registration of the ownership of an apartment costs EUR 92. If there is a separate share certificate for a parking space, a separate application for the parking space is required, which is subject to the registration fee EUR 92 according to the price list.

We will let you know when your application has been processed

Please stay patient, as application processing may take some time. We will notify you through Suomi.fi Messages once your application has been processed. If you have not activated Suomi.fi Messages, you will be notified by post or email. If we require further information regarding your application, the application handler will contact you.

If you are in a hurry, you can contact our customer service to expedite the processing of your application. Expedited processing may be justified if a new owner needs to start a renovation or if an undivided estate of a deceased person wishes to sell an apartment, for example.

For the average processing times of applications, see the Application processing times page. Processing times can also exceed the average in some situations.
