Whistleblower protection shields those who report certain types of misconduct and prohibits retaliation against whistleblowers. Whistleblowers are persons who, in the course of their work, detect a violation of European Union or national law, for example, in public procurement or consumer protection, and report it to the whistleblowing channel.
The National Land Survey has an internal whistleblowing channel, where its employees can confidentially report observed or suspected misconduct in connection with their work.
Other persons, such as retired employees or persons employed by partners, may submit a report pursuant to the Whistleblower Protection Act regarding the activities of the National Land Survey that they discover in their work through the centralised reporting channel of the Office of the Chancellor of Justice.
Whistleblowing is important to prevent threats to the public interest and serious harm. Whistleblower protection allows anyone to report misconduct securely while protecting the whistleblower’s identity. The identity of the whistleblower remains confidential as the report is processed further.
The Office of the Chancellor of Justice relays reports it receives in its reporting channel to the competent authority, which examines the reports and takes the necessary measures.
