Time limits for the registration of the ownership of an apartment

When the ownership of an apartment has changed, the ownership must be registered in the Residential and Commercial Property Information System within two months. Please check here how the time limit is calculated in different situations.

The time limits also apply to cases where the owner of the apartment previously owned part of the apartment and has now acquired the apartment in full.

The time limits apply to cases where there is a paper share certificate for the apartment and the apartment is transferred to a new owner. The time limits do not apply to cases where the apartment already has electronic registration of ownership.

Transactions and gifts

Within two months of the signing the deed of sale or gift.

If the transfer of ownership takes place after the time of signing of the deed, the two-month time limit will be calculated from the time when the right of ownership was transferred.

Distribution of matrimonial assets or an estate

Within two months of the date on which the distribution becomes legally valid.

If the transfer of ownership takes place after the time when the distribution became legally valid, the two-month time limit will be calculated from the time when the right of ownership was transferred.

Cases where there is only one heir

Within two months of the expiry of the time limit or extended time limit for the estate inventory.

Please note: If the decedent died before the transfer of the housing company’s list of shares, the ten-year time limit for the registration of ownership applies. The ten-year time limit will be calculated from the time the housing company transferred the list of shares to the Residential and Commercial Property Information System.

Last will and testament

Within two months of the date on which the will becomes legally valid.

If the registration of ownership is delayed

If the application for the registration of ownership is not submitted by the time limit, you will have to pay a late fee in addition to the fee for the registration of ownership.
