Why is personal data processed?
The National Land Survey of Finland (NLS) processes personal data in customer service when replying to questions, providing advice, processing orders and otherwise communicating with customers.
The NLS processes personal data in stakeholder activities for the purpose of providing information about services and products and related events, sending newsletters, collecting feedback, and otherwise communicating with stakeholders.
What is the basis for the processing of personal data?
The NLS processes personal data to comply with its legal obligations or to perform its duties in the public interest.
Whose personal data is processed?
The NLS processes the personal data of customers and their representatives who do business with the NLS customer service in person at a service point or by telephone, email, post, an online form, chat or the e-service.
In its stakeholder activities, the NLS processes the personal data of stakeholders such as the authorities, businesses using its services and the representatives of partners. The NLS also processes the personal data of newsletter subscribers.

- Background information or other additional information given by the customer

Is automated decision-making or profiling used?
The processing of personal data does not involve any automated decision-making or profiling.
How long is the personal data retained?
The National Land Survey of Finland retains the data until the end of the year during which the customer contacted the customer service and for the three years following the conclusion of the processing of the matter.
The personal data of representatives of stakeholders is retained for as long as the customer relationship with the organisation in question remains valid and for two years after the termination of the customer relationship.
Newsletter subscriber data is retained for as long as is required to send the newsletter, i.e. until the customer cancels their subscription, or the NLS discontinues the newsletter.
Where does the personal data come from?
The NLS obtains the data from the customer when the customer visits the NLS or subscribes to one of the NLS’s newsletters.
To whom is personal data disclosed?
The NLS may disclose data to parties who are legally entitled to receive it, such as other authorities.
Personal data is not transferred outside the EU or EEA.
What are your rights in relation to the processing of your personal data?
You have the right to be informed whether the NLS is processing your personal data and if so, which data. You may submit a request to view your personal data using our form or submit a free-form request. You have the right to request that the NLS rectifies any inaccurate personal data without undue delay. You may submit a request for rectification using our form or submit a free-form request.
You have the right to request that the NLS restrict the processing of your personal data. You also have the right to object to the processing of your personal data. You may submit a request using our form or submit a free-form request. You may unsubscribe from a newsletter and delete your data by using the link at the end of each newsletter.
Right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Ombudsman
You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Ombudsman if you are of the opinion that the NLS has violated legislation on the processing of personal data.
