5G-assisted Ground-based Galileo-GPS receiver Group with Inertial and Visual Enhancement (5GIVE)

The objective of the 5GIVE project is to investigate how to combine satellite positioning techniques with motion sensors and terrestrial radio signals so that the accuracy of the positioning could be enhanced in challenging environments where satellite signals suffer from multipath propagation.

The satellite positioning techniques under examination include merging of individual signals into broadband meta-signals and using an antenna array in the receiver in order to separate the multiple reflections. These methods are combined with machine vision technology and motion sensors. In addition the project clarifies the benefits 5G-signals bring to positioning.

5GIVE project is executed jointly by the Department of Navigation and Positioning of the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute and the University of Helsinki. Project is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA).
