LEOnhard – Resilient PNT for Europe
The LEOnhard project aims to develop a resilient low‑Earth‑orbit (LEO)–based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) system for Europe. Led by Sharpnav Oy together with Aalto University, the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute (FGI), and Tampere University, the initiative seeks to create a high‑precision, interference‑resistant, and scalable complement to existing GNSS services such as GPS and Galileo.
In the first phase of the project, the consortium will focus on developing a LEO‑PNT signal simulator, followed by the implementation of a GNSS+LEO receiver. By reducing dependence on traditional medium‑Earth‑orbit infrastructures, LEOnhard will enhance European autonomy and strengthen the robustness and reliability of future positioning and navigation services.
