Streak detection and astrometric reduction (StreakDet)

In the ESA-funded StreakDet project, we investigate all-around detection and reduction algorithms applicable to optical observations of satellites and space debris. Processing involves several steps, including the segmentation and classification of moving objects, reference stars, artefacts and background, the identification of the objects of interest, the determination of the epoch- related positions of the objects in a reference frame (centroiding), and the estimation of the apparent brightness. Novel algorithms will be studied and implemented in a prototype software.
