Have you seen a drone flying in the woods or a field? It could be a research drone of the National Land Survey of Finland
The Finnish Geospatial Research Institute FGI of the National Land Survey of Finland has numerous ongoing drone-related research projects that produce information for the prevention of forest pests and forest fires as well as for agricultural innovations, among other things.

FGI Research Seminar: GRACE, satellite measured gravity-field variations for new insights into sea-level and the Earth’s core processes
Welcome to the FGI Postdocs in the Spotlight Research Seminar Series!
Our first speaker is Dr. Hugo Lecomte. He will tell us about: GRACE -satellite measured gravity-field variations for new insights into sea-level and the Earth’s core processes.
Gravity-field variations measured by GRACE and GRACE-FO satellites provide unique insights into global mass redistribution, from melting ice sheets and changing sea levels to core dynamics. These measurements and related studies enable a deeper understanding of how surface and internal Earth processes behave.Read moreRead more about FGI Research Seminar: GRACE, satellite measured gravity-field variations for new insights into sea-level and the Earth’s core processes -
FGI Research Seminar: Ultra precise astrometry with Very Long Baseline Interferometry: from radio star to quasar
Our second speaker is Dr. Jingdong Zhang. He will tell us about: Ultra precise astrometry with Very Long Baseline Interferometry: from radio star to quasar.
A precise and stable Celestial Reference Frame (CRF) underpins modern astronomy, geodesy, and related disciplines. Establishing such a CRF relies on high-accuracy astrometric measurements of celestial objects, for which Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) remains the most powerful technique. This talk will present my work on VLBI-based astrometry of extragalactic sources (quasars) and radio stars, emphasizing their roles in the establishment, maintenance, and multi-wavelength alignment of celestial reference frames.
