GraFEPoR – Satellite and terrestrial Gravity data Fusion for Enhanced Postglacial Rebound Modelling

Postglacial rebound (PGR) is a well-known phenomenon in Fennoscandia and North America. During the last glaciation, massive ice sheets depressed the Earth's crust. Following the melting of the ice, the crust has been gradually rebounding toward its equilibrium state. While the three-dimensional crustal deformations associated with PGR are already well understood and accurately modelled, gaining a deeper understanding of the underlying mass redistribution processes requires the study of gravity changes as well.

In the GraFEPoR project, funded by the Research Council of Finland, we conduct a comprehensive investigation of gravity changes related to postglacial rebound. The project combines terrestrial absolute gravity observations, satellite gravity measurements, and Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA) modelling to provide new insights into the geophysical processes driving crustal rebound in Fennoscandia.

The main outcome of the project will be a state-of-the-art Fennoscandian gravity change rate model integrating terrestrial and satellite gravity time series with advanced GIA modelling.
