The Finnish Geospatial Research Institute studies crustal deformations at the candidate sites for final disposal of spent nuclear fuel. The project started when the research networks were founded in Olkiluoto, Kivetty and Romuvaara in 1994-1995.  The networks consist of concrete observation pillars used for periodical GPS campaign measurements of coordinates. One pillar on every site belongs also to a national GPS network FinnRef. From a long GPS coordinate time series the movemet of the crust may be studies. At Olkiluoto also repeated presice levellings and EDM measurements are carried out. The project is financed by Posiva Oy.
