Decisions will be made at the meeting on compensation for losses incurred by landowners, such as land or trees as well as on new property boundaries. The road construction project impacted about 700 landowners through land acquisitions and other environmental changes.
“The total amount of compensation will amount to several million euros. In addition, the 2025 amendment to the Expropriation Act increased the amount of compensation for expropriation by 25%,” says Mauri Asmundela, Director of Expropriation and Valuation at the National Land Survey of Finland.
The Economic Development Centre of Central Finland is responsible for the expropriation compensations. The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency was responsible for the construction of the project, which began in 2018.
The survey process was delayed because of later changes to the plans of the road project as well as the handling of inconveniences and damages caused by the project. It had not been possible to resolve some of them until the road was completed. The road rights and road maintenance issues of the new private roads built alongside the motorway were resolved earlier in the project.
“There were ten meetings in total regarding the survey process and the site surveys concerned dozens of properties. In addition to the expropriation committee, the survey has required significant efforts from surveyors and preparers,” says Ilkka Laakso, Expropriations Production Manager at the National Land Survey of Finland.
The survey process, following the Road Act, has been carried out alongside the project by the expropriation committee, chaired by Vesa Hallikainen, a cadastral surveyor at the National Land Survey.
