According to a recently published scientific article by researchers of the FGI, different spatial data are not compatible, which prevents Finland and Europe from making efficient use of spatial data. However, there is a need for this, as it is estimated that the monetary value of the spatial data market will soon double to almost EUR 1.2 trillion globally.

Researchers from the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute FGI, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Lapland University of Applied Sciences tested several technological solutions, such as slipperiness detection using machine vision and accurate vehicle positioning without the possibility to use satellite positioning.
